Founded in 2017, Divine Locale is an Artist-Curator collective duo comprising of Derby Fine Art graduates Jennifer Birch and Jade Foster. Understanding the gap in artist-led initiatives within the city of Derby, we also operate as a contemporary visual arts organisation.
We concern ourselves with the development of visual arts within small cities.
Divine Locale organises FLUCTU-8 FESTIVAL (previously known in 2017 as Divine Locale- Contemporary Art Festival) which is Derby City's only graduate-led contemporary visual art festival.
Our Core Values
ARTIST-LED - Projects created and curated for and by artists
FLUID - Natural organic approach to creative production, going with the flow, being resourceful, making use of what exists and changing with the creative landscape
LEGACY- We pass the baton on by working with a new cohort of derby graduates every year who lead on the programming of FLUCTU-8 Festival
Our focal aim is to provide space and opportunities for recent graduates as well as giving young people, emerging and early career creatives a platform to showcase their work and engage with the community. We focus on talent development, creative research, experimentation and the production of new work. We support those especially underrepresented in the arts such as BAME, Working Class, LGBTQI+ and Disabled artists. Our whole team self-identity into one or more of those groups.
Divine Locale's long-term goal is to establish permanent studios, project and exhibition space in Derby City.
