''Exhibition and real-world professional practice opportunities for recent fine art, photography and arts graduates from the University of Derby, in Derby itself, can be thin on the ground.
As a curator based at QUAD, and arts centre based in Derby city-centre, I am constantly trying to carve out ways in which to work with current students and recent graduates; but it is not easy.
The entrepreneurial spirit embodied in Divine Locale was therefore a delight as I saw it develop into a beautifully staged and thoughtfully curated project that gave a platform to local artists and students, and those from around the UK. The main exhibition at the space was staged with immense professionalism, as was the associated programme of events and performances. I look forward to Divine Locale returning in 2018, and becoming a fixture of the arts scene in Derby.''

‘’A great day out, a fab area and place to visit, well done and good luck in all your ventures’’.
‘’Interesting + evocative exhibition. Appreciated the opportunity to make art as well and view it. Glad to see accessible culture in central Derby. Thanks for this! X’’
‘’Lovely piece of work! Xxx’’
‘’Amazing display of artwork, I love all the choices and the use of space to present all the of the pieces to show the potential of each piece which really helps to understand each individual artist’s story, Expecially like the photos of Communism Lithuania, as look like they could be excellent album covers for vinyl music. ‘’
‘’Really enjoyed my visit here. I thought the space itself is a great venue for an exhibition & the way the work is displayed is great. Some of my favourite pieces was by Zishi Han & Thomas Wynne. Really hope this festival happens again next year, Derby needs more things happening like this. Was great to see so many graduates exhibiting this work as well!’’
‘’This is an amazing and beautiful ‘’pop-up’’ space. The work is very high standard, stimulating & engaging. I found the whole experience of the visit rich and absorbing. I was with my granddaughter who also got a lot out of it. I was hugely impressed by the performance piece by Pierce Starre. I had come across his concept on the internet & press. Great respect for the level of durational concentration & focus, which made for a very powerful presence. I hope there will be an opportunity for a repeat of this exhibition. ‘’Explosion’’ of contemporary culture in Derby…bring it on!’’ – Walt Shaw, Freelance Musician and Artist.
